HTC may be giving Apple a run for its money in the smartphone category, but it looks as though the company’s plans will extend to the tablet PC sector early next year too, putting it into direct competition with the iPad.
According to component makers in Taiwan, HTC is planning a new tablet device in early 2011 that is expected to run Android 3.0. Such information usually stems from HTC taking bids for components relating to a particular new product. If any of those components include a 7-10″ touchscreen then we know a tablet is in the works.
HTC has worked on a tablet device in the past with the company’s marketing director for Australia stating that development was halted to refocus on smartphones. That was in early 2009, however.
For the moment this news is just speculation from Taiwan manufacturers, but its surely one many users will hope is true based on HTC’s track record of producing quality smartphone hardware.
